Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs), Ministry of Railways, Government of India, have released CEN No. 05/2026 for recruitment to various Paramedical Categories. The notification includes 590 vacancies for Nursing Superintendent, Dialysis Technician, Health & Malaria Inspector Grade II, Audiologist & Speech Therapist, Pharmacist, Radiographer X-Ray Technician, ECG Technician, Optometrist and Lab Assistant Grade II. Online applications started on 15 September 2026 and the last date is 14 October 2026 up to 23:59 hours. The recruitment process consists of a Computer Based Test (CBT), Document Verification and Medical Examination. Educational Qualification


1. Nursing Superintendent

Candidate must have:

  • Certificate as Registered Nurse and Midwife having passed 3 years course in General Nursing and Midwifery from a School of Nursing or other institution recognized by the Indian Nursing Council;

OR

  • B.Sc Nursing.

Special concessions prescribed by the Indian Nursing Council for Auxiliary Nurse Midwives, Midwives and B Grade Nurses are also applicable as specified in the notification.


2. Dialysis Technician

  • B.Sc. plus:
    • Diploma in Haemodialysis;

OR

  • Two years satisfactory in-house Training/Experience in Haemodialysis work in a reputed institution, with proof.

Also eligible:

  • B.Sc. in Dialysis Techniques
  • B.Sc. in Dialysis Technology
  • B.Sc. in Renal Dialysis Technology

3. Health & Malaria Inspector Grade II

  • B.Sc. with Chemistry as Main/Optional subject in any branch of Chemistry during the course;

AND

  • One-year Diploma in Health/Sanitary Inspector;

OR

  • One-year National Trade Certificate (NTC) in Health Sanitary Inspector awarded by NCVT, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India.

4. Audiologist & Speech Therapist

  • Bachelor in Audiology, Speech Language Pathology (BASLP) from a recognized University.
  • Registration with Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) is required.

5. Pharmacist (Entry Grade)

Either:

  • Bachelor Degree in Pharmacy (Allopathic) from a Central/State Government recognized University or Institute and registration as Pharmacist under the Pharmacy Act, 1948;

OR

  • Doctor of Pharmacy from a Central/State Government recognized University or Institute and registration as Pharmacist under the Pharmacy Act, 1948.

6. Radiographer X-Ray Technician

  • 10+2 with Physics and Chemistry; and
  • Two-year Diploma in Radiography / X-Ray Technician / Radiodiagnosis Technology from a recognized Institute.

Science graduates with the relevant diploma are preferred.

The notification also specifies several equivalent/eligible qualifications including B.Sc. Medical Technology in Radiography, B.Sc. Medical Radiography and Imaging Technology, B.Sc. Radiography, B.Sc. Medical Imaging Technology, B.Sc. Radiological & Image Techniques, two-year Diploma in Radiation Technology and certain Bachelor's degrees in Radiation Technology.


7. ECG Technician

  • 10+2 / Graduation in Science; and
  • Certificate/Diploma/Degree in:
    • ECG Laboratory Technology
    • Cardiology
    • Cardiology Technician
    • Cardiology Techniques

Qualification must be from a reputed institution.

Certificate must be of minimum one-year duration.


8. Optometrist

Either:

  • B.Sc. in Optometry;

OR

  • Diploma in Ophthalmic Technician, with course duration of 3–4 years.

Candidate must have registration with the concerned Council/Licensing Body.


9. Lab Assistant Grade II

  • 12th/10+2 in Science; and either:
    • Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT);

OR

  • Certificate Course in Medical Laboratory Technology equivalent to DMLT.

The institution must be recognized by a University/Technical Board of State Government/Central Government authority.

The course must:

  • Be at least one year in duration;
  • Be completed on a full-time basis;
  • Include full-time training;
  • Have an examination system successfully passed by the candidate.

Also eligible:

  • 12th Science + Bachelor of Science Medical Lab Technology.

Educational Qualification – Important Conditions

Candidates must already possess the prescribed educational/technical/professional qualification from a recognized institution by 14 October 2026.

Candidates waiting for the final result of the prescribed qualification are not eligible.

Qualification certificates should contain the date of issue. Where the certificate is issued after the closing date, the prescribed marksheets/result declaration documents must be produced as specified in the notification.

 

Age Limit

Age is calculated as on 01 January 2027.

Post-wise age:

  • Nursing Superintendent: 20–40 years
  • Dialysis Technician: 20–33 years
  • Health & Malaria Inspector Grade II: 18–33 years
  • Audiologist & Speech Therapist: 21–30 years
  • Pharmacist (Entry Grade): 20–35 years
  • Radiographer X-Ray Technician: 19–33 years
  • ECG Technician: 18–33 years
  • Optometrist: 18–33 years
  • Lab Assistant Grade II: 18–33 years

Date of Birth Limits

For the respective age groups, the notification provides the following DOB limits:

  • 18–33 years: born not after 01.01.2009; UR/EWS upper-age DOB not earlier than 02.01.1994
  • 19–33 years: born not after 01.01.2008; UR/EWS DOB not earlier than 02.01.1994
  • 20–33 years: born not after 01.01.2007; UR/EWS DOB not earlier than 02.01.1994
  • 21–30 years: born not after 01.01.2006; UR/EWS DOB not earlier than 02.01.1997
  • 20–35 years: born not after 01.01.2007; UR/EWS DOB not earlier than 02.01.1992
  • 20–40 years: born not after 01.01.2007; UR/EWS DOB not earlier than 02.01.1987

The corresponding SC/ST and OBC-NCL dates are given in the notification's age table.


Age Relaxation

Ex-Servicemen

  • UR/EWS: 3 years after deduction of length of service
  • OBC-NCL: 6 years after deduction of length of service
  • SC/ST: 8 years after deduction of length of service

Applicable to Ex-Servicemen having at least six months continuous service after attestation.

PwBD

  • PwBD UR/EWS: 10 years
  • PwBD OBC-NCL: 13 years
  • PwBD SC/ST: 15 years

Serving Group C / erstwhile Group D Railway Staff and Substitutes

With minimum three years' service:

  • UR/EWS: Maximum age 40 years
  • OBC-NCL: Maximum age 43 years
  • SC/ST: Maximum age 45 years

Quasi-Administrative Railway Offices

For employees of Railway canteens, cooperative societies, institutes etc.:

  • Up to length of service rendered; OR
  • 5 years,

whichever is less.


Widowed/Divorced/Judicially Separated Female Candidates

Who have not remarried:

  • UR/EWS: 35 years
  • OBC-NCL: 38 years
  • SC/ST: 40 years

If eligible for age relaxation on more than one ground, only the maximum applicable relaxation is given; relaxations are not cumulative.


Medical Standards

The posts require different medical standards:

  • B-1: Dialysis Technician, Audiologist & Speech Therapist, Radiographer X-Ray Technician, Optometrist, Lab Assistant Grade II
  • C-1: Nursing Superintendent, Health & Malaria Inspector Grade II, ECG Technician
  • C-2: Pharmacist (Entry Grade)

Medical standards include prescribed distance/near vision and other visual requirements. B-1 additionally requires passing colour vision, binocular vision, night vision and mesopic vision tests.

Candidates failing the prescribed medical standard will not be considered for empanelment and no alternative appointment will be provided.


Selection Process / Recruitment Process

The recruitment process consists of:

Computer Based Test (CBT) → Document Verification (DV) → Medical Examination (ME) → Empanelment/Appointment

CBT

  • Single-stage CBT.
  • Duration: 90 minutes
  • PwBD/PWD candidates eligible for scribe facility: 120 minutes
  • Total questions: 100
  • Objective Multiple Choice Questions.
  • Four options per question.
  • One correct answer.

CBT Marks Distribution

  • Professional Ability: 70 questions / 70 marks
  • General Awareness: 10 questions / 10 marks
  • General Arithmetic, General Intelligence & Reasoning: 10 questions / 10 marks
  • General Science: 10 questions / 10 marks
  • Total: 100 questions / 100 marks

Negative Marking

1/3 mark is deducted for every wrong answer.

Minimum Qualifying Marks

  • UR/EWS: 40%
  • OBC-NCL: 30%
  • SC: 30%
  • ST: 25%

The same community-based criteria apply to Ex-Servicemen and PwBD candidates. Up to 2 marks relaxation may be given to PwBD candidates in case of shortage against reserved PwBD vacancies.

Candidates equal to the number of vacancies will normally be called for Document Verification based on CBT merit.


Tie-Breaking

If two or more candidates obtain the same marks:

1.      Older candidate gets higher merit position.

2.      If age is also the same, alphabetical order of the given name, not surname, is used.


Document Verification & Medical Examination

At DV, candidates must produce their original certificates.

No additional time will be provided for failure to produce original certificates.

Empanelment depends upon:

  • CBT merit
  • Successful Document Verification
  • Prescribed Medical Examination
  • Final verification of educational/community certificates
  • Verification of antecedents/character

Appointment is issued by the concerned Railway Administration.


EBC Fee Concession

EBC candidates must have annual family income below ₹50,000.

Acceptable documents include:

  • Valid EBC Income Certificate in prescribed format;
  • BPL Card;
  • Izzat MST issued by Railways;
  • Certificate issued by Central Government under a recognized poverty alleviation programme.

The relevant document must be available on or before 14 October 2026.

EBC status provides fee concession only and not job reservation.

Payment is allowed online only through:

  • Internet Banking
  • Debit Card
  • Credit Card
  • UPI

Applicable service charges are to be borne by the candidate.

Applications without prescribed fee will be rejected.

Pay is according to 7th CPC Pay Level.

  • Nursing Superintendent — Level 7 — ₹44,900 initial pay
  • Dialysis Technician — Level 6 — ₹35,400
  • Health & Malaria Inspector Grade II — Level 6 — ₹35,400
  • Audiologist & Speech Therapist — Level 6 — ₹35,400
  • Pharmacist (Entry Grade) — Level 5 — ₹29,200
  • Radiographer X-Ray Technician — Level 5 — ₹29,200
  • ECG Technician — Level 4 — ₹25,500
  • Optometrist — Level 4 — ₹25,500
  • Lab Assistant Grade II — Level 3 — ₹21,700

Step 3

Create an RRB account.

Candidates who already created an account for previous RRB CENs should use the same credentials.


Step 4

Use a valid personal mobile number and active personal email ID.


Step 5

Authenticate identity through DigiLocker or Aadhaar as advised.


Step 6

Fill in the online application with correct personal, educational and category details.


Step 7

Select one RRB.


Step 8

Provide post/Railway Zone preferences for posts for which the candidate is eligible and interested.


Step 9

Select examination medium.

Only one application should be submitted against this CEN.


Live Photograph Requirements

A pre-existing photograph does not need to be uploaded.

The application system captures a live photograph using webcam/front camera.

Candidates should:

  • Wear non-white clothing, preferably dark clothing.
  • Position the camera at eye level.
  • Face the camera directly.
  • Keep a neutral expression.
  • Keep the complete face clearly visible.
  • Not wear cap, mask or glasses/spectacles.
  • Use the preview/retake facility if required.

Photographs that do not comply may result in rejection.

The candidate's appearance throughout recruitment must match the application photograph.

Scribe Facility

Scribe facility is available under the conditions specified for eligible PwBD/PWD candidates.

Candidates with:

  • Blindness
  • Locomotor Disability (Both Arms Affected – BA)
  • Cerebral Palsy

can avail scribe facility if desired.

Other eligible candidates require the prescribed medical certificate confirming physical limitation to write.

Candidates with less than 40% disability covered under the relevant RPwD provisions and having difficulty writing may also avail the facility subject to prescribed certificates.

Compensatory Time

Eligible candidates may receive 20 minutes per hour of examination.

The candidate has to arrange the scribe at their own cost.

The scribe must register through the RRB portal and obtain an OTR number.


Application Modification

Modification is allowed from:

17 October 2026 to 26 October 2026

Modification fee:

₹250 per modification

This fee is non-refundable and applies irrespective of category.

The following cannot be modified:

  • Details entered in Create an Account form
  • Mobile number
  • Email ID
  • Chosen RRB

After 26 October 2026, modification requests will not be accepted.


Reservation Rules

Vertical reservation is provided for:

  • EWS
  • SC
  • ST
  • OBC-NCL

where applicable.

EWS, SC, ST and OBC-NCL candidates must produce the prescribed certificates during DV.

OBC-NCL certificate must be issued on or after 01 April 2026 and not later than the application closing date.

Candidates belonging to the OBC creamy layer are not entitled to OBC reservation.

EBC, EWS and OBC are three separate categories.


EWS Eligibility

For EWS reservation:

  • Candidate should not be covered under SC/ST/OBC-NCL reservation.
  • Family gross annual income must be below ₹8 lakh.
  • Income considered includes salary, agriculture, business, profession and other sources.
  • Financial year applicable for this CEN: 2025–26.

A family is excluded from EWS if it owns/possesses:

  • 5 acres or more agricultural land;
  • Residential flat of 1,000 sq. ft. or more;
  • Residential plot of 100 sq. yards or more in notified municipalities;
  • Residential plot of 200 sq. yards or more in areas other than notified municipalities.

A valid Income & Asset Certificate is required.


Important Instructions / Terms & Conditions

  • Applications must be submitted online only.
  • Candidates must possess the required qualification by 14.10.2026.
  • Candidates awaiting final results are not eligible.
  • Only one RRB can be selected.
  • Multiple applications will lead to rejection of all applications.
  • Multiple applications can result in disqualification/debarment from future RRB/RRC examinations.
  • Candidate eligibility remains provisional until document verification.
  • False information or suppression of material information can lead to cancellation.
  • Candidates must maintain their personal mobile number and email ID throughout recruitment.
  • Mobile number and email ID cannot subsequently be changed.
  • CBT centre/date/shift cannot be changed on request.
  • Candidates may have to travel to another city/state for CBT.
  • Candidates must meet the prescribed medical standard.
  • No alternative appointment will be given if medically unsuitable for the opted post.
  • Negative marking is 1/3 mark for each wrong answer.
  • Electronic gadgets are prohibited at the examination centre.
  • Mobile phones, watches, calculators, Bluetooth devices, cameras, bags, food, water bottles and other prohibited items are not allowed.
  • Only the e-call letter is permitted inside the test centre as specified.
  • Candidates should not carry a pen/pencil; pen will be provided during the examination.
  • Henna on hands/feet is discouraged because it can obstruct biometric capture.
  • Unfair means, impersonation or malpractice can result in lifetime debarment and legal action.
  • Biometric verification may be conducted at every stage.
  • RRBs may conduct additional CBT/DV if required.
  • Vacancies may increase, decrease or become NIL.
  • Railway Administration may cancel notified vacancies.
  • RRB decisions relating to recruitment matters are final and binding.
  • Free sleeper-class railway travel is available to eligible SC/ST candidates who opt for it.
  • E-call letter issuance does not mean final acceptance of candidature.
  • Original documents will be checked during DV.
  • Selected candidates may be liable for active service in Railway Medical Unit of Territorial Army.
  • Security/Indemnity Bond may be required at joining.
  • Appointment depends upon vacancy availability, eligibility, merit, medical fitness and verification.
  • RRB only recommends candidates; appointment is issued by the concerned Railway Administration.
