Educational Qualification

For DEO / DEO Grade ‘A’ in:

• Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution
• Staff Selection Commission
• Ministry of Culture

Candidate must have passed 12th Standard in Science stream with Mathematics as a subject from a recognized Board or equivalent.

For LDC/JSA and other DEO/DEO Grade ‘A’ posts

Candidate must have passed 12th Standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University.

Cut-off Date for Qualification

Educational qualification must be possessed on or before 07 October 2026.

Candidates who have appeared in the 12th examination may apply, but their required qualification/result must have been declared by 07 October 2026. Mere processing of the result by the Board/University by this date will not satisfy the requirement.

Open/Distance Learning Qualification

Degrees/diplomas/certificates obtained through Open and Distance Learning are subject to recognition by the Distance Education Bureau, UGC, for the relevant period. Candidates may be required to produce the applicable approval during Document Verification.

Age Limit

Age as on 01 August 2026

18 to 27 years

Candidates must have been born:

• Not before: 02 August 1999
• Not later than: 01 August 2008

Age Relaxation

Important Age-related Conditions

• Date of birth entered in the application and recorded in the Matriculation/Secondary certificate will be accepted for age determination.
• No later request for change of date of birth will be accepted.
• Age relaxation is not available to sons, daughters or dependents of Ex-Servicemen.
• ESM candidates must satisfy the applicable documentary requirements.

Selection Process / Recruitment Process

The SSC CHSL 2026 examination consists of:

Stage 1 — Tier-I

Computer Based Examination.

Stage 2 — Tier-II

Computer Based Examination consisting of:

• Section-I: Mathematical Abilities + Reasoning & General Intelligence
• Section-II: English Language & Comprehension + General Awareness
• Section-III: Computer Knowledge Test
• Section-IV: Skill Test / Typing Test.

Tier-I Pattern

Time: 60 minutes, with a sectional timer of 15 minutes per subject.

For eligible scribe candidates, the applicable additional time is provided as specified in the notice.

There is 0.50 negative marking for each wrong answer.

Tier-II Pattern

Session-I

Section-I

Time: 1 hour, with 30 minutes sectional timer for each part.

Section-II

Time: 1 hour, with 40 minutes for English and 20 minutes for General Awareness.

Section-III

Computer Knowledge Test

• Questions: 15
• Marks: 45
• Time: 15 minutes
• Qualifying in nature.

Session-II

Section-IV — Skill/Typing Test

• DEO/DEO Grade ‘A’ specified posts: 15-minute Skill Test
• Other DEO/DEO Grade ‘A’: 15-minute Skill Test
• LDC/JSA: 10-minute Typing Test

The Skill/Typing Test is qualifying in nature.

Skill / Typing Test Requirements

DEO / DEO Grade ‘A’ — Specified Departments

For DEOs in the departments/ministry mentioned in Para 8.1:

• 15,000 key depressions per hour
• Test duration: 15 minutes
• Passage: approximately 3,700–4,000 key depressions
• Skill Test is mandatory.

Other DEO / DEO Grade ‘A’

• 8,000 key depressions per hour
• Test duration: 15 minutes
• Passage: approximately 2,000–2,200 key depressions.

LDC/JSA Typing Test

Candidates may select:

• English: 35 words per minute
• Hindi: 30 words per minute

Equivalent approximately:

• English: 10,500 key depressions/hour
• Hindi: 9,000 key depressions/hour

Test duration: 10 minutes.

For Hindi typing, Mangal Font is compulsory.

Minimum Qualifying Marks

Tier-I and Tier-II Sections I, II & III

Candidates are shortlisted for Tier-II based on Tier-I performance, using normalized scores where applicable.

Final Merit

Final merit/selection is based on the aggregate marks of Section-I and Section-II of Tier-II, subject to qualifying Section-III and Section-IV.

Computer Knowledge Test and Skill/Typing Test are qualifying in nature, while the DEO Skill Test is mandatory for qualified DEO candidates.

LDC / JSA

Pay Level-2: ₹19,900 – ₹63,200

DEO

Pay Level-4: ₹25,500 – ₹81,100

and

Pay Level-5: ₹29,200 – ₹92,300

DEO Grade ‘A’

Pay Level-4: ₹25,500 – ₹81,100

Examination Centres

Candidates have to select three examination centres in order of priority within the same SSC Region.

Once submitted, the choice cannot be changed.

For Chhattisgarh/Madhya Pradesh, the Madhya Pradesh Region (MPR) includes centres such as:

• Bhopal

• Indore
• Jabalpur
• Satna
• Sagar
• Ujjain
• Bilaspur
• Raipur
• Durg-Bhilai

SSC may add, cancel or divert candidates from an examination centre when required.

How to Apply — Step-by-Step

Step 1

Visit the new SSC website: https://ssc.gov.in

Step 2

If you have not generated an OTR on the new SSC website, complete One-Time Registration (OTR).

The old OTR generated on ssc.nic.in will not work on the new website.

Step 3

Login using your Registration Number and password.

Step 4

Under Latest Notifications, select:

Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination 2026

and click Apply.

Step 5

Verify your OTR information and enter the required educational qualification details.

Step 6

Enter information relating to:

• Educational qualification
• Armed Forces/Ex-Serviceman status
• Age relaxation
• Examination centre preferences
• PwBD/PwD status, wherever applicable
• Scribe requirements, wherever applicable
• Computer Based Examination language
• Typing Test medium
• Science stream with Mathematics status, where applicable.

Step 7

Capture/upload the live photograph.

The photograph should be:

• Clear
• Full frontal
• Without cap
• Without mask
• Without spectacles
• Taken with good lighting and plain background
• Camera at eye level.

Step 8

Upload the signature in JPEG/JPG format.

The notice specifies approximately 10–20 KB and about 6 cm × 2 cm in the main application instructions.

Step 9

Preview the application carefully and verify all information.

Step 10

Accept the declaration and enter captcha.

Step 11

Submit the application.

Step 12

If applicable, pay the ₹100 examination fee online.

Step 13

Save/print the submitted application for future reference.

At Examination Centre

Candidates who have not undergone Aadhaar Based Authentication must carry:

1.      Admission Certificate

2.      At least two recent passport-size colour photographs

3.      Original valid Photo-ID containing Date of Birth, such as:

o    Voter ID

o    Driving Licence

o    PAN Card

o    Passport

o    University/College/School ID

o    Government/PSU Employer ID

o    Ex-Serviceman Discharge Book

o    Other Central/State Government photo ID

Candidates should report two hours before the scheduled examination if they have not undergone Aadhaar Based Authentication.

If the Photo-ID does not show Date of Birth, an additional original DOB document must be carried. Any mismatch in DOB may result in the candidate being denied entry.

Candidates may be required to submit:

1.      Matriculation/Secondary Certificate

2.      Educational Qualification Certificate

3.      Equivalence Certificate/order, if claiming equivalent qualification

4.      Caste/Category Certificate, if applicable

5.      PwBD Certificate, if applicable

6.      ESM Undertaking

7.      Serving Defence Personnel Certificate, if applicable

8.      Discharge Certificate, if applicable

9.      Certificate supporting age relaxation

10. No Objection Certificate if employed in Government/Government undertaking

11. Documents relating to change of name, wherever applicable

12. Any other document specified in the Admission Certificate.

If claims made in the application are not supported by valid documents at verification, candidature can be cancelled.

Important Instructions / Terms & Conditions

OTR

New applicants must create OTR on ssc.gov.in. OTR from the old website ssc.nic.in is not functional for the new website.

Aadhaar Authentication

Candidates are advised to use Aadhaar Based Authentication. Candidates using Aadhaar authentication receive certain relaxations regarding photograph/signature standards and examination-entry photo-ID requirements as specified in the notice.

Application Information

All information entered must be correct. Information is subject to verification against original documents and incorrect information can result in rejection.

Post Preference

Post/Department preferences will be collected through an Online Option Form before final FRTA/Result.

• Preference is compulsory for consideration for that post/department.
• Once submitted, preference is final and irreversible.
• Candidates who do not submit preferences within the stipulated period will not be considered in FRTA/Result.
• No further opportunity will be given.

Physical/Medical Standards

Some posts, including LDC in BRO, may have specific physical, medical or educational standards. Candidates should verify these before giving post preference. Once a post is allotted, failure to meet its specific standards will not result in shifting to another preference.

Document Verification

DV will be conducted by the concerned User Ministries/Departments/Organizations after the final result.

No Waiting List

SSC does not maintain a waiting/reserve list for multi-factor examinations, although a Sliding Mechanism has been adopted.

Probation

Candidates appointed through this examination will be on two years' probation and may be required to undergo prescribed training/examinations.

Re-evaluation

There is no provision for re-evaluation/re-checking of scores of any examination stage/Tier.

Answer-Key Objections

Candidates can submit online representations against tentative answer keys within the prescribed time by paying ₹50 per question, which is non-refundable.

Tie-Breaking

If candidates have equal Tier-II scores, the following criteria are applied sequentially:

1.      Marks in Tier-II Section-I

2.      Marks in Tier-I

3.      Date of birth — older candidate gets higher merit position.

Disqualification

A person who has entered into a marriage with a person having a living spouse, or who has a living spouse and enters into another marriage, is generally not eligible for appointment, subject to the Central Government's specified exemption.

Public Disclosure of Scores

After final results, SSC/National Career Service may publish certain candidate details, including name, parent/spouse name, DOB, category, gender, educational qualifications, qualifying-exam marks, ranking, address and email, if the candidate has opted to disclose them.

Malpractice

Malpractice can result in cancellation of candidature and debarment from future SSC examinations. Actions include penalties for copying, impersonation, possession of electronic devices, forged documents/admit cards, taking examination material out of the hall, unauthorized communication, hacking/manipulation of examination systems, misuse of scribes, etc.

Commission's Decision

The Commission's decision regarding eligibility, application acceptance/rejection, selection, examination conduct, centres, merit list, post allocation and debarment for malpractice is final and binding.

Court Jurisdiction

Disputes relating to the recruitment will be subject to the courts/tribunals having jurisdiction over the place of the concerned SSC Regional Office where the candidate appeared for the examination.
