Educational Qualification

Candidates must already possess the prescribed educational/technical/professional qualification from a recognized University/Institute by 13.09.2026. Candidates awaiting final results are not eligible.

Electrical JE Posts

For the applicable electrical posts, the prescribed qualification is generally:

• Three-year Diploma in:
• Mechanical Engineering

• OR a combination of sub-streams of the basic streams mentioned above.

For S&T-related posts, qualifications include combinations of:

Civil JE Posts

• Three-year Diploma in Civil Engineering; or

Mechanical JE Posts

The notification prescribes three-year Diploma qualifications in applicable disciplines including:

• Tools & Machining
• Tools & Die Making Engineering

or combinations of sub-streams of the specified basic disciplines.

Depot Material Superintendent

• Three-year Diploma in Engineering in any discipline from a recognized University/Institution.
• Higher qualifications such as B.E./B.Tech are also acceptable in lieu of a three-year Diploma in Engineering in the same discipline.

Age Limit

Age as on 01.01.2027

• Minimum Age: 18 years
• Maximum Age: 33 years

The prescribed date-of-birth limits are:

Both dates are inclusive.

Age Relaxation

If eligible for relaxation on more than one ground, only the maximum applicable relaxation will be allowed, not cumulative relaxation. SC/ST/OBC-NCL candidates applying against UR vacancies do not receive their category age relaxation.

Nationality / Citizenship

A candidate must be:

1.      A citizen of India; or

2.      A citizen of Nepal; or

3.      A subject of Bhutan; or

4.      A person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Candidates in categories 2–4 must have a Certificate of Eligibility issued by the Government of India, which must be produced during Document Verification.

Medical Fitness

Candidates shortlisted for Document Verification must pass the prescribed Railway medical examination.

Medical Standards

A-3

• Distance vision: 6/9, 6/9 with or without glasses; lens power not exceeding 2D.
• Near vision: Sn 0.6, 0.6.
• Must pass Colour, Binocular, Night and Mesopic vision tests.

B-1

• Distance vision: 6/9, 6/12 with or without glasses; lens power not exceeding 4D.
• Near vision: Sn 0.6, 0.6 where required.
• Must pass Colour, Binocular, Night and Mesopic vision tests.

C-1

• Distance vision: 6/12, 6/18 with or without glasses.
• Near vision: Sn 0.6, 0.6 where required.

Candidates who fail the required medical standard will not be considered for empanelment and will not receive an alternative appointment.

Fee Payment Mode

EBC

For fee concession, EBC means candidates with annual family income below ₹50,000.

• Certificate issued by Central Government under a recognized poverty-alleviation programme

The required document must be valid on the application date and issued on or before 13.09.2026.

Selection Process / Recruitment Process

The recruitment process consists of:

1.      1st Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-I)

2.      2nd Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-II)

3.      Document Verification (DV)

4.      Medical Examination (ME)

CBT-I

• Duration: 90 minutes
• Scribe candidates: 120 minutes
• Questions: 100
• Total Marks: 100
• Objective multiple-choice questions.

Negative marking: 1/3 mark for every wrong answer.

Minimum qualifying percentage:

• UR: 40%
• EWS: 40%
• OBC-NCL: 30%
• SC: 30%
• ST: 25%

For PwBD candidates, the qualifying percentage may be relaxed by 2 marks where there is a shortage against PwBD-reserved vacancies.

CBT-II

• Duration: 120 minutes
• Scribe candidates: 160 minutes
• Questions: 150
• Marks: 150

Negative marking: 1/3 mark for every wrong answer.

A virtual calculator is provided during CBT-II.

Shortlisting

• Candidates for CBT-II: 15 times the community-wise vacancies notified against the RRB, based on CBT-I merit.
• Candidates for DV: number equal to the vacancies.
• Merit is based on normalized marks where applicable.
• Tie-breaking: older candidate gets higher merit; if age is also the same, alphabetical order of the given name is used.

Empanelment

Empanelment is based on merit and is subject to:

• Successful Document Verification
• Passing prescribed Medical Examination
• Final verification of educational/community certificates
• Verification of antecedents/character.

How to Apply – Step-by-Step

1.      Read the complete CEN carefully.

2.      Check eligibility against Annexure-A and vacancy details in Annexure-B.

3.      Visit the official RRB website/application link.

4.      Create an RRB account.

5.      Candidates who already created an account for an earlier RRB CEN should use the same credentials.

6.      Provide a valid personal mobile number and active email ID.

7.      Authenticate identity through DigiLocker/Aadhaar as advised.

8.      Select only one RRB.

9.      Select eligible and preferred Railway Zones/posts/categories under that RRB.

10. Select examination medium.

11. Fill the online application with correct information.

12. Complete live photograph capture.

13. Upload the required signature.

14. SC/ST candidates seeking free train travel must upload their valid SC/ST certificate.

15. Pay the examination fee online.

16. Confirm successful fee payment through SMS/email.

17. Submit the application.

18. Keep the registration/application details safely.

19. If required, use the modification window from 16.09.2026 to 25.09.2026 by paying ₹250 per modification.

20. Eligible candidates using a scribe must submit scribe details during 26.09.2026–30.09.2026.

Live Photograph Requirements

• No pre-existing photograph needs to be uploaded.
• Live photograph is captured during application.
• Webcam or mobile front camera may be used.
• Candidate should preferably wear non-white/dark clothing.
• Camera should be at eye level.
• Face should be clearly visible and centred.
• Neutral expression.
• No cap, mask or spectacles.
• Candidate may preview and retake the photograph.
• Photograph must comply with the prescribed instructions.
• Photograph mismatch may require Annexure-VII certification by a Gazetted Officer.

• Candidate's own signature.

• Not in block/capital/disjointed letters.

• Minimum 100 DPI.

• Minimum dimensions: 140 × 60 pixels.
• Signature box: 35 mm × 20 mm.

SC/ST Certificate

For candidates seeking free railway travel:

• PDF format.
• File size below 400 KB.
• Clear and legible.
• Latest and valid on the application closing date.

At Document Verification

Candidates must bring:

• All original documents.
• Two sets of self-attested photocopies.
• Educational qualification certificates.
• Age proof.
• Caste/category certificates wherever applicable.
• EWS/OBC-NCL/SC/ST certificates where claimed.
• Ex-Servicemen/PwBD certificates where applicable.
• NOC from present employer, where applicable.
• Other prescribed certificates according to the candidate's claim.

Certificates must be in English or Hindi; where issued in another language, a self-attested translated version in Hindi/English must be produced.

Documents for Reservation Categories

OBC-NCL

• Certificate in prescribed format.
• Must be issued on or after 01.04.2026 and not later than the application closing date.
• Candidate's caste must be in the current Central OBC list.
• Self-declaration confirming non-creamy-layer status is required at DV.

EWS

• Income & Asset Certificate in prescribed format.
• Family gross annual income below ₹8 lakh.
• Financial year applicable to this CEN: 2025–26.
• Asset conditions specified in the CEN must also be satisfied.
• Certificate must be valid on the application closing date.

Minority Candidates

The notification recognizes:

• Muslim
• Sikh
• Christian
• Buddhist
• Jain
• Zoroastrian (Parsi)

Candidates claiming fee waiver must submit the prescribed minority declaration affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper at DV.

Scribe Facility

Scribe assistance is available according to the conditions in the notification.

Eligible categories include:

• Blindness
• Locomotor Disability – Both Arms Affected (BA)
• Cerebral Palsy
• Other eligible PwBD candidates having physical limitation to write, subject to the prescribed medical certificate
• Persons with less than 40% disability covered under Section 2(s) of the RPwD Act and having difficulty writing, subject to prescribed certificates.

Important conditions:

• Candidate must opt for scribe in the application.
• Candidate arranges the scribe at own cost.
• Scribe must register with RRB and obtain an OTR number.
• Scribe can assist only one candidate in the same CEN.
• A candidate cannot act as a scribe for another candidate in the same CEN.
• Scribe qualification must be one step below the candidate's qualification.
• Compensatory time: 20 minutes per hour of examination.

Modification of Application

• Modification fee: ₹250 per modification.
• Fee is non-refundable.
• Modification window: 16.09.2026 to 25.09.2026.
• No modification is allowed after 25.09.2026.
• Create an Account details, mobile number, email ID and Chosen RRB cannot be changed.
• Modification fee applies to all categories.
• Certain category changes may also require payment of the difference in examination fee.

Pay Scale / Salary Details

• Pay Level: Level 6 under 7th CPC
• Initial Pay: ₹35,400
• Medical Standard: Post-wise as given in Annexure-A
• Pay/allowance details beyond initial pay: Not Mentioned in PDF.

Important Instructions / Terms & Conditions

• Applications are accepted online only.
• Only one RRB can be selected.
• Multiple applications to different or the same RRB will lead to rejection of all applications.
• Multiple applications can also result in disqualification/debarment from future RRB/RRC examinations.
• Educational qualifications must be possessed by the closing date.
• Candidates awaiting final results cannot apply.
• Eligibility is provisional until original documents are verified.
• False information, suppression of facts or unsupported claims can result in cancellation of candidature.
• Medical fitness is mandatory.
• No alternative appointment is provided if medically unsuitable for the opted post.
• Candidates must maintain an active personal mobile number and email ID throughout recruitment.
• Examination centre/date/shift cannot be changed on request.
• Candidates may have to travel to another city/state for CBT.
• Negative marking of 1/3 mark applies for every wrong answer in CBT.
• Banned electronic gadgets and other prohibited items are not allowed in the examination centre.
• Pen/pencil will be provided during the examination.
• Candidates are advised not to apply Henna/Mehndi on hands/feet because it can interfere with biometric capture.
• Violation may result in disqualification, legal action and/or debarment.
• Unfair means, impersonation or cheating can lead to lifetime debarment from RRB/RRC examinations and legal action.
• RRBs reserve the right to increase/decrease/cancel vacancies.
• RRBs can conduct additional CBT/DV where required.
• RRBs may reschedule examinations due to technical/unavoidable circumstances.
• Selection by RRB does not itself confer an absolute right to appointment.
• Final appointment is issued by the concerned Railway Administration.
• Selected candidates may have to undergo prescribed training and only stipend will be paid during training.
• Selected candidates are liable for active service in the Railway Engineers Unit of Territorial Army.
• Security/Indemnity Bond may be required at joining.
• RRBs may modify/add/delete recruitment terms when necessary.
