Educational Qualification

Candidate must:

1.      Have passed 10th Class examination or equivalent under the 10+2 examination system.

2.      Have obtained minimum 50% aggregate marks.

3.      No rounding off is allowed for the 50% requirement.

4.      The qualification must be from a recognized Board.

5.      Possess a National Trade Certificate (NTC) in the notified trade issued by:

o    National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT), or

o    State Council for Vocational Training (SCVT).

Age Limit

As on 06.11.2026:

• Minimum Age: 15 years
• Maximum Age: 24 years

Age Relaxation

Reservation / Certificate Requirements

SC/ST

SC/ST candidates seeking reservation must produce a Caste Certificate in Central Government format issued by the appropriate authority at Document Verification.

OBC

OBC candidates must produce:

• OBC Caste Certificate
• Non-Creamy Layer Certificate issued on or after 01.04.2026
• Central Government prescribed format
• OBC Declaration as per Annexure-IIA

EWS

EWS candidates must produce the prescribed EWS certificate as per Annexure-III.

Ex-Servicemen / Armed Forces Personnel

Candidates claiming reservation must produce:

• Discharge Certificate, where applicable
• For children of Ex-Servicemen: required parental discharge certificate
• For children of serving Armed Forces personnel: Armed Forces Serving Certificate

Selection Process / Recruitment Process

Selection is based on merit, not a written examination.

Merit Calculation

The merit list is prepared using:

Percentage of 10th/Matriculation marks + ITI marks

The panel is based on the simple average of the matriculation and ITI percentages.

• Minimum 50% aggregate marks in matriculation is required.
• Marks of all subjects in matriculation are considered.
• ITI marks mentioned in the provisional/final certificate are considered.

Tie-Breaking

If two candidates obtain the same marks:

1.      The older candidate is preferred.

2.      If dates of birth are also the same, the candidate who passed matriculation earlier is considered first.

Final Merit

The final merit list is prepared:

• Division/Unit-wise
• Trade-wise
• Community-wise
• In descending order of merit
• Equal to the number of available slots

After merit selection, candidates are subject to:

1.      Original document verification

Upload signature:

Medical Fitness

Selected candidates must produce a medical certificate at Document Verification in the prescribed Annexure-IV format.

The certificate must be signed by a Government Authorized Doctor (Gazetted), not below the rank of Assistant Surgeon of a Central/State Hospital. 1005_12061494

The medical fitness certificate specifies, among other requirements:

• Freedom from contagious/infectious disease
• No tuberculosis, active or healed
• Minimum height: 137 cm
• Minimum weight: 25.4 kg
• Chest expansion: not less than 3.8 cm
• Required eye standards
• Good hearing in both ears
• No prohibited hearing aid
• No acute/chronic skin disease or chronic ulceration
• Appropriate speech
• Fitness of alimentary, cardiovascular, respiratory, genito-urinary, skeletal, nervous and glandular systems.

Where a candidate does not satisfy the stated minimum height/weight/chest standards but is certified physically fit for the particular trade by a Medical Officer not below Assistant Surgeon (Gazetted), the candidate may be engaged in that trade.

PwBD Eligibility / Disability Standards

The notification specifies eligibility for:

• Locomotor Disability/Cerebral Palsy with at least 40% relevant disability
• Hearing Impairment with loss of 60 decibels or more in the better ear in the conversational frequency range
• Visual functioning conditions specified in the notification.

For different trades, specific disability requirements are prescribed. For example:

• Mechanic (Diesel): specified partial upper/lower limb conditions
• Electrician: partially affected lower limb can be accommodated
• Electronics Mechanic: specified leg-related condition
• Welder (Gas & Electric): specified absence of leg/fingers condition
• Machinist: small finger damage can be accommodated
• Fitter: specified lower-limb condition
• Carpenter: specified upper/lower limb condition

Training Period & Other Conditions

• Training period will be according to the applicable rules/directives issued by the Railway Board.
• No hostel accommodation will be provided.
• Selected candidates have to make their own arrangements for accommodation during training.
• Candidates will be released on completion of training.
• Before apprenticeship begins, the selected candidate must enter into a Contract of Apprenticeship with the employer.
